Commonwealth Day Competition

Commonwealth Day is an opportunity to promote understanding on global issues, international co-operation and the work of Commonwealth organisations, which aim to improve the lives of citizens.

It is celebrated on the second Monday in March every year.

This year our school entered flying the Flag for the Commonwealth’ competition and we are proud to say that Evie's entry was chosen as the winner!

Evie, her parents’ and Mrs Hobden were invited to the civic suite the council house where she received the award from the Mayor and attended the raising of the commonwealth flag.

The Gambia

CBJS have a developing link with Muhammedan Lower Basic, a school located in the central area of the Gambia.

We have already completed a variety of activities including 'A Day in the Life', science investigations and have exchanged various powerpoint presentations and letters.  All of these activities have been designed to enable both schools to gain a greater understanding of both the differences and similarities that are in our world.

This year we will be developing our friendship further through our Year 6 children and their topic 'Come Fly With Me' based around Africa.

Here are some presentations that the children in the Gambia have sent to our school:

In July 2012 we were sent a number of Olympic medals made by the children in The Gambia for us to use on sports day.  Here is a photo of some Y5 children modelling the medals they won at sports day:
