Welcome from Mr Backhouse

Welcome to CBJS’s website. We are very pleased with the way the website has developed over the last two years and we have developing plans to showcase children's work more and to develop links and activities for learning at home and at school. It is packed with information about the school. The latest details on the home page ensures that visitors to the website are always up-to-date with everything that is happening in school on a day to day basis. The website reflects our commitment to our children’s education, their personal development and to a rich and vibrant curriculum.

We aim to create a school where all individuals, both children and staff feel valued. We are always looking for opportunities to celebrate success and we hope that the website has become another window through which we can share the school’s achievements.

Our values are central to the life of the school and were developed in consultation with everybody in the school community. Respect, honesty, caring, politeness, trust and determination are examples of these values and together they help to give all our children a sense of stability and belonging.

The school has an excellent reputation for achievement in sport, drama and music. Regular concerts and productions give the children opportunities to shine and parents and friends of the school the opportunity to enjoy these performances. Sports teams do well in local competitions. We achieved Active mark in 2008 for the school's commitment to high quality PE and sport. We achieved the national healthy school standard this year and Artsmark Gold

Parents are important partners with the staff of the school in developing children’s learning and we are always looking to further develop this partnership. The evolving contribution of our new parent consultation group will help to take the school to a new level. The group have played an important role to play in helping us achieve the National Healthy School Standard. Our PTA is thriving with regular events for children and families. Inspire workshops, parents' evenings and workshops about the curriculum keep parents informed and knowledgeable about the school.

We have an excellent staff team of both teaching and support staff. The first point of contact is often the school office. Visitors and parents are assured of a warm welcome from a friendly and knowledgeable team. All our teachers are well qualified with continuing professional development to keep them up-to-date with the needs of the children. They go out of their way to support the children’s academic and personal development and will spend time talking to parents about any concerns. Teachers are supported by effective and committed teams of assistants and supervisors. Our site manager and team work very hard to ensure the school is safe and clean at all times.

Our governors know the school well, give generously of their time and are involved in helping and guiding the vision for the school’s future. Further information about their contribution to the school can be found on their governor pages.

Most of all the children help to make our school a special place. The majority come from our linked infant school where they make an excellent start to their formal education. We build on that through the junior school years and when they leave us to go to secondary school they are ready to face the future with confidence.

Last year in 2007/2008 we had a particularly successful year. Successes included:

  • Active mark 2008 for achievements in school sport and PE
