Year 5

Viking Visit 12-13.09.18

Year 5 had a visitor in school to introduce the Viking topic. The children found out about the Viking people lived and compared the rich and poor conditions.

They explored Viking weapons and found about how these were used. We were even told a Viking myth. The children had a great day immersed in the Viking era.

Dunfield House
Currently, half the year group have gone to stay in a beautiful house in the countryside and are spending the week preparing an amazing performance, amongst other fun things! The rest of the year group have a great time in school doing art, sport, drama and music all week.
Photos to follow once they return.

Science: Moving mechanisms

As part of our topic, the children made a pully and a level out of connex. They had great fun working out which pieces joined together and testing their final outcomes.

World Book Day.

At CBJS the children dress up each year to celebrate World Book Day. We have some great costumes each year to show the exciting books our children love to read. See which characters you can spot.

Science: Reversible and Irreversible Changes.

As part of our science topic, we had a parents afternoon where we mixed bicarbonate of soda and vinegar or an irreversible change. All of the children and parents enjoyed the activity and seeing the reaction.

We also visited Park Hall School, where we got to use Bunsen burners to burn materials. The children had such a great day and enjoying seeing one of the local secondary schools.

Viking Visitor

We had a visitor come into school to tell and show us about lots of fascinating Viking artefacts.

We got to wear a Viking helmet, look at their shields and write our own name in their language.

We have loved learning to play the clarinets.

No-one had ever played before and now we know lots of notes and can play tunes.

We even have a 2 concerts coming up in June - come and check out how great we are.

We visited this amazing indoor city for children in London.

The children could independently choose from a number of real-life entertaining activities from being a midwife to estate agent, fireman to shop keeper, actor to doctor. All of the children had lots of fun and spoke highly of the event on return.
