Curriculum
The Curriculum at Castle Bromwich Junior School
At Castle Bromwich Junior School, we believe learning should be exciting, meaningful, and help every child grow into the best version of themselves.
Our curriculum does more than teach the basics – it helps children become confident, creative, and ready for whatever the future holds. We aim to support every child not just academically, but also socially, emotionally, and personally.
How We Teach and What We Believe
We follow the saying:
“I see and I forget, I hear and I remember, I do and I understand.”
This means we believe children learn best by doing – through hands-on activities, working together, asking questions, and having fun with their learning.
Our curriculum includes all the subjects in the National Curriculum, and much more. We offer trips, clubs, special events, and activities that help children enjoy school and learn new things about themselves and the world.
Children also learn from everyday experiences at school – like how we treat each other and what’s expected of them. These important lessons help them become kind, respectful and responsible people.
What We Want for Your Child
We want all our pupils to:
- Try their best
- Enjoy learning
- Be happy, healthy, and confident
To do this, we:
- Teach key knowledge, skills, and vocabulary
- Make lessons creative and interesting
- Support every child’s development – academically and personally
Children learn best when they are involved and excited about what they’re doing. We give them chances to explore, talk, ask questions and use their imagination.
A Well-Planned Curriculum
We follow the government’s National Curriculum and use high-quality resources. We’ve also created our own clear plans for what children should learn in each subject as they move through the school.
Subjects are mostly taught separately, but we connect them when it helps children understand more deeply.
We also offer extra opportunities to help children grow in confidence and life skills. These include wellbeing weeks, team projects, and approaches like Growth Mindset and Cooperative Learning – all supporting our school values: Adapt, Accept, Aspire.
Learning About Life and Others
We help children understand themselves and their place in the world. As part of this, we teach important values such as:
- Democracy
- Following rules
- Individual rights and freedoms
- Respect for everyone
These are explored in lessons, assemblies and everyday school life, helping children learn to be thoughtful, respectful and caring citizens.
